Tyson Bagent signs two year contract extension with Chicago Bears and shares emotional family story

On August 20, 2025, the Chicago Bears announced a two-year, $10 million contract extension for backup quarterback Tyson Bagent . The agreement ensures Bagent remains on the roster through the 2027 season. Tyson Bagent, who is only 25 years old, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent from Shepherd University and has certainly shown his potential with the Bears. Bagent was very emotional after signing the contract and one can see why this moment would mean so much to him.

During a press conference following the announcement, Bagent shared heartfelt sentiments about his upbringing. He revealed that his father, Travis Bagent, who is his “right-hand man,” grew up without running water until high school.


This recognition gave him face up to the burden the contract placed on the family. Bagent stated that this contract not only alleviates a financial liability, but it is, in a larger sense, a way to give back to his house.

He mentioned, “It feels good, it’s certainly a weight off my shoulders and my family’s shoulders. It definitely means a lot.”

Tyson Bagent’s preseason performance and future with Chicago Bears
Tyson Bagent has really had an impressive 2025 preseason thus far. In his last preseason appearance on August 22 against the Kansas City Chiefs , Bagent managed to play the role of hero in the third quarter after the Bears fell behind 27–10.

He displayed calmness and skill with the football, leading the Bears to a 29–27 win by throwing three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter including the game-winning touchdown with three seconds left.

Overall, Bagent finished with 20 completions on 28 attempts for 212 yards and a passer rating of 128.9. This performance surely locked him in as the backup quarterback behind starter Caleb Williams.

The Bears’ general manager, Ryan Poles , praised Bagent’s work ethic and leadership, stating that he is a “catalyst for positive influence throughout our entire organization.”

Bagent's commitment and toughness in going from being a Division II player to earning an NFL contract prove incredible resolve. He looks forward to helping the Chicago Bears be great in the next few seasons with the love and support of his family and the Chicago bears.
