Brits looking for the best way to cook sausages are being urged to ditch the frying pan for a much simpler option. Whether you prefer pork, chicken or veggie sausages, there's now an easy method that leaves them crispier on the outside and juicy on the inside, without using any oil or making a mess.
Cooking sausages in the traditional way often means standing over a hot stove, cleaning up greasy pans or worrying if they're cooked through properly. But more and more home cooks are switching to a different method that's faster, cleaner and works with all types of sausages. The alternative is especially useful for busy families, as it allows you to cook large batches without much effort.
And there's no need to preheat, use extra oil or even defrost your sausages in advance.
The trick is using an air fryer. According to food blogger Sarah Rossi, who runs Taming Twins, air frying sausages is the best way to get a crispy result without the fuss.
She wrote: "Pop them in and you'll have crispy bangers that cook evenly in no time."
Sarah added: "It's now a given that sausages are made in the air fryer every time in our house.
"They are much crispier than when they're made in the oven or in a frying pan, and the mess is confined to the air fryer. Win win!"
She said there's no need to add oil, no need to preheat, and no need to line the tray. Just space the sausages out evenly and cook according to type and size.
For standard sausages, she recommends setting the air fryer to 200C for 15 minutes, turning them once halfway through.
Chipolatas take around 10 minutes at 180C, while frozen sausages can be cooked from frozen at 200C for 20 minutes.
Vegetarian options also work well, taking roughly 10 minutes at 180C, though it's worth checking after seven minutes.
Sarah said: "The fat drains through the air fryer tray instead of sitting in it, which makes them tastier and gives that crispy finish."
She also advised leaving space between sausages so the heat can circulate properly and ensure an even cook.
There's no need to prick them or do anything special beforehand. Simply separate linked sausages, pop them in the machine, and let the air fryer do the work.
For families, it's a quick and easy way to cook enough sausages for everyone without using multiple pans or checking the oven every few minutes.
And for those trying to cut back on oil or cut down on cleaning, the method has become a firm favourite.
