A major closing-down sale has been launched by a popular bargain chain which has already shut down several stores this year. Sales up to 50% will apply on items from The Original Factory Shop department store.
The Original Factory Shop in Spennymoor is the latest branch set to close, with major clearance sales now underway. Signs have been displayed across the shop windows and throughout the store informing customers of the closure and ongoing discounts. Men's and women's clothing, along with footwear, have been reduced by 20%. Handbags and backpacks are selling for 50% off their original price. Toys and games are 20% off.
The high street chain has already shut several stores since the start of the year, The Sun has reported. Last week alone, four branches closed, including those in Wetherby, Horley, Spalding, and Otley. In September, locations in South Yorkshire and Chard were also closed. Additionally, the Whitchurch branch in Shropshire closed at the end of August, featuring a 50% closing-down sale.
The closures come as the chain undergoes a major restructuring following its acquisition by Modella Capital earlier this year. Modella, known for taking over struggling retailers, has also recently acquired Hobbycraft and WHSmith's high street outlets.
The company swiftly initiated a restructuring programme to renegotiate rents at 88 Original Factory Shop stores.
Shoppers took to social media to comment on the news.
"A big loss as one of few affordable shops for clothing & household items. We will miss popping in to see what's on the floor each week! Thanks to the staff who served us with patience," one said.
"Useful shop, will be sorry to see it go," another added.
