The Disney Plus and Hulu series, Murdaugh: Death in the Family, premiering on 15 October, features Brittany Snow in the role of Mandy Matney, a podcaster who delved into the murky world of the Murdaugh family cover-ups.
Jason Clarke portrays Alex Murdaugh, the patriarch of the family, who was a lawyer from a lineage of prominent attorneys in South Carolina's Lowcountry.
In January 2023, he faced trial for the murder of his wife, Maggie, and their 22 year old son, Paul.
Despite denying the charges, Murdaugh, now 57, was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment, currently held in protective custody in a maximum-security prison.
Murdaugh sought a new trial, alleging jury tampering by the court clerk, but this motion was denied by a new trial court judge in January 2024.
The case was dubbed South Carolina's "trial of the century" by local media.
In 2021, Alex had requested his wife Maggie to join him at their hunting lodge in Islandton, intending to visit his terminally ill father, Randolph Murdaugh III.
Maggie began to suspect her husband's intentions upon arrival and discovered their son, Paul.
Alex reported finding the bodies of Maggie and Paul near the dog kennels, each having been shot multiple times in the head, wrists and chest with different firearms.
Murdaugh insisted he was with his dementia-stricken mother at the time, but video evidence featuring Alex's voice placed him at the crime scene prior to the murders.

Buster Murdaugh, Alex's sole surviving son, has led a secluded life since his father's conviction, staunchly defending his father's innocence.
He relocated from the family residence and as of May 2023, he was residing in Bluffton with his long-term girlfriend.
Buster was scheduled to resume his law studies, however, it remains unclear whether he has been readmitted yet.
