New Delhi: Bhubaneswar’s KIIT-KISS signed an agreement with UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace (MGIEP) to advance the vision of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4.7.

The agreement was signed in New Delhi in the presence of Dr Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT & KISS, and Prof. Obijiofor Aginam, Director of UNESCO MGIEP.

MGIEP, which is UNESCO’s Category 1 Research Institute focused on transforming education towards SDG 4.7, and KIIT-KISS will work together to initiate youth-led group projects to address SDG challenges.

The institutions will develop and roll out credit-awarding courses in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and Media & Information Literacy, as well as launching youth-led community projects to address SDG challenges.

Special focus will be on equipping young people with skills necessary for building peaceful and sustainable societies.

Dr Samanta, who participated in the roundtable meeting on ‘Education for Peace’ in India, highlighted the role of education in social development.

Agreeing that education is the most powerful tool to build a better world, discussions between the two sides revolved around how, in line with SDG 4.7, education can promote empathy, compassion, and critical thinking to create peaceful, inclusive and sustainable societies.
