'I tried Burger King's new £11 gourmet Wagyu Burger - one thing surprised me'

Burger King has elevated its menu with the fast food giant's most premium burger yet - as it has just launched a brand new Wagyu Burger and it might be the best and poshest one yet. The iconic burger chain has released the first of it's kind in stores across the UK, giving fans a gourmet burger without the hefty price tag.

It comes as Harrods launched their Wagyu burger for £85, so this offering is a little easier on the wallet for sure. Even world-renowned chef Gordon Ramsay has backed the burger, and while he has claimed he wishes he created it, it's set to be a best seller.

Despite Ramsay's own wagyu burger, which comes with Pecorino and shaved truffle, Burger King’s new release is a move away from traditional fast food making it a little more elevated.

Costing £11, it's set to give diners a premium tasting burger for less, and I knew I needed to try one to see if it was the real deal. It's the latest addition to the Burger King's Gourmet King's range bringing global flavours from around the world as Wagyu is traditionally from Japanese culinary.

The burger is a big one, with 100% British wagyu beef, flame-grilled to make it soft, topped with sweet, caramelised onions, pink pickled onions, peppery rocket, crispy onions and a creamy layer of caramelised onion mayo, served in a soft, seeded brioche bun. Here's what I thought...

From first look, you could tell this burger was a premium one as it came in a special black box that unfolded as you opened the lid, already setting it apart from their other burgers. It also smelt very rich and I noticed the burger patty was large too, which made me worried that it would be a little dry like many fast food burgers.

However it definitely wasn't dry, and I was pleasantly surprised. The beef had a rich and almost creamy taste to it, which made every bite enjoyable. Mixed in with the creamy caramelised onion mayo and caramelised onions on top - it worked very well.

One thing that did surprise me was that there was no cheese on it - it's quite a bold statement from a fast food chain to not add cheese but I think this shows how impressive the burger tastes as it didn't need it and I didn't feel as if it was missing. Sadly I couldn't really taste the crispy onions, but the pickled onions were a nice touch.

I wasn't getting a 'flame grilled' taste like I do on other Burger King patties, but I don't think it mattered too much as it was still very tasty. While I was seriously impressed by the new burger, I think £11 is pretty expensive for a fast food burger - but still much easier to justify than it's competitors at nearly £90 a pop.

But while we all deserve a little treat every now and then, this is definitely worth a try. Gordon Ramsey's verdict was also impressive as he said: "Take it from me, The Wagyu tastes flaming great and anyone trying it will be able to taste the gourmet quality of the beef… which is so important for any great burger. It’s amazing to see how Burger King UK have made wagyu so accessible to the public, and I absolutely love how the product celebrates the best of British beef farming.”

Christian Binney, director of food development at Burger King UK said: "The Wagyu is our most premium burger to date and a true innovation that delivers gourmet flavour to our guests nationwide. From the dedicated farmers raising wagyu herds, to our restaurant teams perfecting the flame-grilled taste, it has been crafted with expertise at every stage. And when Gordon Ramsay himself says he wishes he made your burger, you know you’re onto something special - having him involved really is exciting for us."

The Wagyu is available nationwide from today, for a limited time only.
