The onset of crisp autumn weather has sparked debate among Britons about the optimal moment to fire up their heating systems, while others have already made the decision to begin warming their homes.
Determining the ideal timing for switching on the heating can prove challenging. Numerous families prefer to endure the cold, worried about living costs, and opt for extra layers or throws instead.
Health professionals advise that properties should typically not drop below 18C. They suggest that when outdoor temperatures reach 15C, it may signal the time for households to activate their heating systems.

Individual preferences vary and residents must ultimately choose what provides them with optimal comfort, reports Birmingham Live.
Stephen Hankinson, managing director at Electric Radiators Direct, explained: "There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer to when you should turn on your heating, as it varies from person to person.
"The effectiveness of your heating system can also depend on the type of house you live in – newer homes with better insulation may retain heat more efficiently, while older houses might need more frequent heating adjustments to stay comfortable.
"However, the NHS suggests that once temperatures fall below 15C, it's a good idea to start heating your home. Ideally, aim to keep your living spaces at a minimum of 18C, although many people prefer their living rooms to be a bit warmer.
"As we approach the autumn months, even those who are usually resilient to the cold will likely need to start heating their homes, as temperatures are expected to drop even further in the weeks to come.
"Before the cold weather sets in, it's a good idea to run a few quick checks on your heating system. Turn it on for a few hours to test, whether that means switching on your boiler or using electric radiators.
"This will give you plenty of time to identify any issues and have them repaired well before winter arrives."
