Eurovision 2025 fans horrified by host's outfit as they liken it to Temu fashion fail

The second semi-final may be all about the music, but for many viewers, it was host glittering outfit that truly stole the spotlight - and not in the way she might have hoped. As fans tuned in for the penultimate night of performances before Saturday's Grand Final, fans were taken aback by Brugger's choice of ensemble.

The Swiss-American-German comedian and presenter took to the stage in a sparkling dress made up of oversized sequins that soon got viewers talking. One viewer compared the dress's reflective sequins to CD relics from the early 2000s, quipping: "Good to see someone making use of all those free AOL CDs you used to get."

Another joked, "Temu claimed another victim didn't it?" in reference to the budget-friendly Chinese marketplace known for occasionally delivering customers items that don't quite look like what they thought they were ordering.

A third posted a photo of the cover of The Rainbow Fish with a caption that read "Hazel's outfit tonight", poking fun at how similar the glittery scales on the fictional fish look to Brugger's sequins.

Despite receiving some criticism for her outfit, Brugger, who is co-hosting this year’s semi-finals alongside Swiss presenter Sandra Studer, is unlikely to take fans' jokes too seriously given her previous television experience. Hazel began her career in 2016 as a correspondent on Germany’s heute-show, which is a political satire programme.

In 2019, she launched a successful series with her husband, fellow comedian Thomas Spitzer. In it, the pair explore quirky places with guests from the German comedy scene.

As the second semi-final gets underway in Basel, Switzerland, the competition among the 16 participating nations is heating up. Only 10 of them will secure a coveted spot in Saturday’s Grand Final.

Viewers online who is likely to get the axe. Ireland, Montenegro, Georgia, and Denmark have all been singled out by fans as likely non-qualifiers, as some have criticised their shaky vocal performances.

One fan admitted: "I love Ireland, but I am bracing myself for a NQ [non-qualification]." Meanwhile, another confidently stated: "Pretty sure they're out: Montenegro, Georgia."

’s Go-Jo opened the show with his eccentric number Milkshake Man, while Finland’s Erika Vikman is set to close the night with an electrifying techno track called ICH KOMME.

Country trio Remember Monday has taken to the stage with their performance of What the Hell Just Happened? The song is a riotous piece about the aftermath of a wild night out.

The band has been praised for their understanding of the importance of staging, which they learned during their days .

The Eurovision Song Contest continues with the second semi-final on Thursday, May 15 at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The Grand Final will take place on Saturday, May 17 at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
