Veteran actor Satish Shah, who earned immense love for his unforgettable portrayal in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, passed away on October 25 at the age of 74. His character—Indravardhan "Indu" Sarabhai, an ex-director of an MNC who lacked a filter—is iconic even today.

In a recent heartfelt conversation on the YouTube channel Be You With Shraddha S, actor Rajesh Kumar—known to fans as Rosesh—fondly reflected on how his co-stars, especially Satish Shah, helped shape his most beloved character.

Rajesh shared that the essence of Rosesh’s charm lay not just in his quirky voice or mannerisms but in the way his fellow actors reacted to him. According to him, the brilliance of the show stemmed from the effortless chemistry between the cast. Every response from Ratna Pathak Shah or Satish Shah elevated his performance, making the scenes come alive. He laughed as he recalled how even today, whenever he meets the group, he unconsciously slips back into his Rosesh persona because they still treat him the same way. Within their old Sarabhai WhatsApp group, he joked, he continues to be the target of good-natured teasing — especially from Satish Shah, who never missed a chance to pull his leg.

Looking back at his early days on the set, Rajesh confessed that he initially felt intimidated. Being new to comedy and sharing the frame with such seasoned performers made him anxious. He admitted that the environment often felt like a playful initiation ritual, where he was constantly teased by his senior colleagues. Though married at the time, he said he felt like a bachelor during the entire one and a half years of filming, as the cast treated him with mock seriousness and comic reprimands. He even avoided bringing his wife to the set, joking that the way his co-actors ribbed him might have scared her off. Deven Bhojani, one of his co-stars, often teased him by saying he didn’t know how to react properly on cue, adding to his nervous amusement.

Rajesh also recounted one particularly difficult shooting day that tested his patience and confidence. The scene involved a lengthy monologue about his sleepless nights, spanning over a page and a half. Despite repeated efforts, he kept fumbling over his lines, and the team had to take multiple retakes — at least eight. Eventually, Satish Shah lost patience and quipped that he should be called back only after he memorized his dialogue. The remark, though likely meant in jest, left Rajesh deeply affected, even bringing him to tears. He couldn’t tell if it was pure frustration, friendly teasing, or genuine criticism. Afterward, he asked the director for a brief break to compose himself. Even years later, Rajesh would remind Satish Shah of that incident, playfully accusing him of making him cry — though Satish always denied it with a laugh.

Despite those tough moments, Rajesh holds immense gratitude toward his Sarabhai vs Sarabhai team. He emphasized that every lesson, every reaction, and every piece of guidance he received from his co-actors helped mould Rosesh into the memorable character fans adore today. Those experiences, though challenging, remain some of the most enriching and cherished moments of his career.
